Many of the families associated with Crofton Volunteer Fields enjoyed a beautiful spring day working outside.
They showed the meaning of being a volunteer on Sunday, April 6 as they gathered for the annual field clean-up event.
The event saw over 50 people working for nearly two hours to spruce up the top field, the bottom field, and the grass field.
Several of the kids involved in baseball and softball chipped in their fair share of the work as well. However, there were a lot of pickup baseball and softball games being played.
Much of the work being done included cleaning up dead leaves under the bleachers and along the foul lines, pulling up dead weeds along the edges of the infields, and thatching the dead grass in the outfield.
However, there were some specialty tasks that were completed, like replacing tin on the shelter roof and wiring down the dugout and backstop fences at the grass field.
All in all, this was a great opportunity to help kickoff the baseball and softball seasons as most of the youth baseball and softball teams begin their season last week (Monday, April 7-Sunday April 13).
“The fields have made incredible progress in recent years, and today’s volunteer contribution shows just how dedicated people are to their kids and their community! Thank you for all of your help!” said Scott Morrison, organizer.
