A new business addition to Plainview has placed the former Watson Motor Company building along Highway 20 mid-town Plainview back in business with “5 Crowns Golf” opening its doors this past weekend for an official “soft opening.”
Toby (Jacquie) King officially opened the a golf pro shop with expanded services - this past week, with the front room of the building filled with golf carts, clothing, cart accessories, coats, towels, shoes – and a host of exclusive vendor items for the area.
King originally started a golf cart customization and sales business a number of years ago with local golfer Bill Bonta, T&B Golf Carts in 2015, and King eventually split off his own business with a goal of expanding to include more services.
To rebrand the name and business, King said he chose “5 Crowns Golf” as a tribute to his five member family including: his wife, Jacquie (Frahm); and kids: Emma, Jacson and Gabby. With around 40 carts in stock, King did expand, and he also became the exclusive dealer for “Vivid,” “Titan,” “ELLWEE” and “Cycle Boards” that produce a different 4-wheeler style single cart, and a skateboard styled three-wheeled cart for singles, as well as raised carts with every accessory anyone could hope for.
King added these brands to the “EZ-Go” traditional styled carts that he and Bonta had originally gotten into selling and repairing. King still offers customization to any of the carts, with some 2018 models that he’s repaired and upgraded to look brand new.
With the cart business, he also offers batteries, battery conversion to lithium, tires, lights, sound equipment, customized paint jobs, custom seats and stitching and restoration and repair services for all styles, ages and types of carts. He’s also added a financing option for carts.
And that’s just the front half of the display room floor.
King also offers a full line of multiple brands of “golf apparel” – with “Proud90” and “Bogey Bros” as a few of the “fun” brands offered, and “LinkSoul” for those golfers wanting a professional look.
Shoes, gloves and sandals from “Ghost Golf” and “TRUE Linkswear”; “Sweet Rolls” for club grips and “Lazylife” customized seat options continue to add to the offerings at the store, plus King is an exclusive dealer for Bushnell, selling rangefinders and global positing watches as well.
For those more interested in their physical golf game, King also has a few sets of clubs, and he hopes to add service for club customization and regripping as well, bringing back a long-time service that Plainview has not had since Millnitz Sporting Goods near 30 years ago.
King said he has planned a grand opening for the spring, when he expects to be the busiest, but until then, the store will have hours on Fridays from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. – watch the “5 Crowns Golf” social media pages.
King added that the remaining portion of the former Watson building will be used by the family’s trucking business.
