Come out to the 47th Annual Pierce Old Time Threshers Bee, September 14 and 15 at the Pierce County Fairgrounds in Pierce.

Some activities you will see at the show both Saturday and Sunday are: threshing, which is separating the grain from the stem or straw of the plants, and corn shelling after the corn ear is picked from the stalk the ears are run through the corn sheller. The oats were cut and bundled several weeks ago so they are dry enough for the threshing operation; the leftover straw is baled to make bedding for the farm animals.

Other events of interest: Saturday, 8:00 a.m., the FFA tractor driving contest; 9:00 a.m., an antique auction provided by Hansen Auction Service LLC; and a banquet at 6 p.m., followed shortly by a speaker connected with the feature tractor brand, Allis Chalmers. Reservations for the banquet should be made at the registration building by 12 p.m. on Saturday.

There will be a Sunday church service at 9 a.m. by the Prodigal Sons.

The Threshing Bee will have one new activity this year. The group has challenged some of the Pierce County Mayors to come out Sunday, September 15th to have a tractor race. This is not a race of speed, but a race to see which Mayor can drive their tractors the slowest. The race will be before the parade on Sunday.

Fun for the whole family, demonstrations of old-time farming. Kids activities include potato digging, a money scramble in a pile of straw, pony rides, and the pedal tractor pull. All of the activities at the Pierce Old Time Threshers Bee are free.
