The Planview girls’ cross country team travelled to the Hartington Golf Club on Thursday, Aug. 29

to kick off its 2024 season at the Hartington-Newcastle Invitational.

During the contest, the Pirates had three girls compete in the girls 5k run and one compete in the mixed 2,000-meter run.

Leading the pack for the Pirates in the 5k race was Morgan Nincehelser, who finished towards the middle of the pack with a time of 27:11.26.

Slightly further back in the mix of over 40 runners were the duo of Makenzie Mosel and Ashlyn Forbes. Mosel finished with a time of 30:01.58 to secure 35th place while Forbes finished in 41st with a time of 37:38.54.

Unfortunately, because the Pirates only had three girls competing, they were ineligible to win the invite’s team championship plaque.

In the 2,000-meter run, Ella Nincehelser represented the Pirates well. With a time of 14:46.76, E. Nincehelser managed 16th place overall in a field of 28 competitors, and was the lone Pirate to compete in the event.

After their efforts at the Hartington-Newcastle Invite, the Pirates have earned a well-deserved

week-long break before their next competition.

The Plainview girls’ cross country team will travel to Niobrara-Verdigre for the Cougar Invite on Thursday, Sept. 5 to continue its regular season.
