The Plainview Lady Pirates saw their 2024 season come to an end at the Class D1 District 2 championship in Shickley on Saturday, Nov. 2.
After winning their subdistrict championship to earn a spot in a district final, the Pirates were the 15-seed out of the remaining 16 teams in Class D1.
With this seed, they were matched up with the number two team in Class D1, the Bruning-Davenport/Shickley (BDS) Eagles in the District 2 championship, where the winner would head to the NSAA Class D1 state volleyball tournament in Lincoln.
The Pirates came into the contest with a record of 14-15, while the Eagles boasted a 28-4 record.
Because BDS claimed the higher seed, the contest was played in Shickley, which gave even more of an advantage to the Eagles.
However, despite entering the contest with the lower seed and the disadvantage of playing on the road, the Pirates got off of the bus ready to play with a trip to Lincoln on the line.
Just two players saw their careers come to an end with the loss to BDS on Saturday. Those players include Shayla Jacobsen and Hannah Darnall, who served as team captains for the Pirates during the 2024 season. The remainder of the team will be eligible to return to the court for the 2025 season.
