After competing at the 2025 Concordia University CUNE Invite in Seward on Friday, March 21, the Plainview Pirates boys track and field team has officially started its 2025 competitive season.
After a solid fifth-place team finish at the 2024 NSAA Class D State Track and Field Championships and a first-place finish in 2023, the Pirates are returning some talent and looking to repeat the success they’ve found throughout the past few seasons.
This year, the Plainview squad will have a total of 24 athletes out, four of which will return as state qualifiers from last season.
The quartet of Karter Lingenfelter, Brodi Bruha, Rece Frahm, and Kohen Lingenfelter will all be returning as qualifiers from the 2024 season. Although they did not bring home any medals, they did bring back experience.
“I like our depth and returning experience as we only had one senior on the team last year,” said Jeremy Peter, the head coach of the Plainview boys track and field team. “We have a lot of guys who are going to take the next step this year and have a chance of being really successful.”
Despite the competitive track season running for just around two months, the Pirates have a full schedule on their plate of 12 upcoming invites, including districts and state.
One of the highlights of the Pirates 2025 season schedule is the Class D District 4 Invite, which will be hosted by Plainview.
“We’re excited to be hosting districts this year,” Peter said. “It’s always great that the kids get to compete at home for a chance to qualify for state.”
The Class D District 4 Invite will be held in Plainview on Wednesday, May 14. Those who perform well enough will advance their season to Friday and Saturday, May 23 and 24 for the NSAA Class D State Track and Field Championships in Omaha.
