With school just around the corner, the faculty and staff at Plainview Public Schools have been working hard to ensure a safe and healthy return on August 13th. While students are at school, every precaution will be taken to follow the health guidelines that have been set out by the Nebraska Department of Education in conjunction with the Center for Disease Control.
Parents, if your child is not feeling well, please do not send them to school. You must call to let us know they are not feeling well. For elementary students, call 402-582-3808. For junior and senior high school students, call 402-582-4991.
As a district, we will be requiring sick students and staff to stay home, screening students and staff upon arrival each day, intensifying cleaning and disinfecting efforts daily, implementing social distancing strategies, changing parent drop-off and pick-up processes to limit contact, and ensuring athletic activities follow established safety and hygiene protocols.
Individuals who have a fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or above, or other signs of illness, may not come into any of the school’s facilities. This is for you, and for all other students and staff in the building.
Cleaning and Disinfecting: upon arrival at school, students will wash their hands. Signs will be hung with reminders on proper hand washing procedures. Teachers will ensure that areas are sanitized between groups, and that students wash/sanitize hands throughout the day. In the Jr./Sr. High School, tables and desks will be disinfected at the end of each class period.
Social Distancing: maintaining physical distancing in groups is required; including in classrooms, during outside activities, and when lining up. Groups and/or classes will be separated when indoors or when outside, but a physical barrier will not be required. Groups will not convene in shared indoor spaces unless they are cleaned before and after use (gyms, cafeterias, art rooms, common areas, etc…).
Lunch: students will eat in the cafeteria using social distancing. When students enter the cafeteria, they will use hand sanitizer and will need to sit with one seat between them and the person next to them. Tables will be disinfected following each lunch session. All food and utensils will be served to students, there will be no self-serve stations. The only self-serve items will be straws and milk.
Parent Drop-off and Pick-up Processes: all doors will remain locked to students until 7:30 a.m. each day. We will have students enter and exit through different doors as a way to help with social distancing.
Elementary Entrances:
Preschool and Kindergarten classes enter through East doors
First and Second grades enter through the main office doors
Third and Fourth grades enter through North doors (in the back of the school)
Fifth and Sixth grades enter through west doors
These entrance requirements will take place daily for all students (to include Walking Club participants)
Jr./Sr. High School Entrances:
7th through 8th grades enter through the activities entrance
9th through 10th grades enter through the locker room doors
11th through 12th grades enter through the Superintendent’s doors
Athletic Activities: Plainview Public Schools will follow all return to activities procedures set forth by the NSAA. All coaches and sponsors will be given a copy of the return procedure and regulations. As a collective group, we will stay up to date and follow regulations from the Nebraska Schools Activities Association.
Return to Learning from positive COVID-19 test: Plainview Public Schools will follow the Directed Health Measures as set out by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services when determining whether a student and/or staff member may return to school after a positive test result.
