Age wins over Juniors ... (some how) Dusting off their “old” and squeezing into their “used-to’s” the dads, coaches and “older” Plainview baseball players gathered their gear for a game against the Plainview Junior’s squad last week. When the dust had settled, the “old guys” had won over their younger counterparts on the Junior Legion team, 12-10.

10U girls softball closes winning season The Plainview Lady Pirate 10-and-under girls softball team drew their shortened season to a close in July, with a total record of 6-3. “The girls played some very good softball this year, while learning to pitch,” said Coach Blake Nincehelser, “This group of girls have a very bright future in the game of softball.” Team members included, front row (l to r): Kennedy Watson, Katelynn Mosel, Kinley Hodson, Pressley Alexander, Rylee Nincehelser; and back row (l to r): Coach Blake Nincehelser, Lucea Miller, Ashlyn Forbes, Kara Lingenfelter, Riley Miller, Kenadee Doerr, Tessa Webber, and Coach Kelly Lingenfelter.

10U girls softball closes winning season
Mason honor 50-year member, Sirek Members of the Plainview Masonic Lodge No. 204 recently traveled to Orchard to present a 50-year-membership pin and certificate to Hoyt Sirek. Sirek joined the Masonic Lodge in Orchard on March 12, 1970. Brother Gale Retzlaff, Plainview Lodge #204 Worshipful Master, presented the award. Brother Sirek became a member of Plainview Lodge #204 from the consolidation of lodges in 2018.

Darnall on National Champ team The Norfolk Golden Girls team, coached by Andy Severance, Jim Wichman and Jim Vrbsky, came out as Champions at the 2020 Girls Class B 14 & Under Northern Nationals Tournament. Eastern Star award presented Members of Mt. Vernon Chapter #84, Order of Eastern Star, traveled to Orchard to present 50 year pins to Hoyt and Arlene Sirek. They joined Eastern Star at Orchard, July 16, 1970. Nebraska Grand Chapter issued the pins and certificates. They were presented by Joan Alexander, Worthy Matron and Gale Retzlaff, Worthy Patron. Arlene Sirek served as Worthy Matron of Sunset Chapter #300, five times and held multiple offices at the local level. She served as a District Grand Supervisor and a Grand Representative to Iowa. Hoyt Sirek held the office of Sentinel for a number of years. Both are members of Mt. Vernon from the consolidation of Chapters in 2018.

Baileyz BBQ business purchased by Laurel restaurant owners Longtime Plaiview residents, Dale and Cheryl Bailey, first started selling Baileyz BBQ sauce at Bailey's Drive Inn back in 1999.
