The 8U Pirate Baseball team competed in their annual league tournament on June 21st and 22nd and were able to capture fourth place in the league!

The Plainview Post 148 senior legion baseball squad went 4-0 this past week with back-to-back wins on Sunday, June 23, to improve their season record to 6-4 after a rough start to their season.

Spencer Hille stepped on the gridiron to represent the Plainview Pirates at the 47th annual Sertoma 8-Man All Star Game on Saturday, June 15 on Lloyd Wilson Field at Hastings College. Hille competed in the prestigious contest as a member of the East Squad.
He was joined by some of the best eight-man players in eastern Nebraska, including players from recent State Championship-winning teams such as Stanton and Clarkson-Leigh.

Results from last week’s Double S Extreme bull riding, brought by the Plainview Chamber of Commerce, were released this week, with a contest involving 31 riders from mainly across the Midwest.
Two Plainview riders competed for their hometown, identified in pictures – Landon Hansen, son of Dallas and Chari Hansen, and Ethan Rix, son of Angie and Brian Frahm and Brett and Randee Rix.
The 18th annual Highway 20 Hotrod Association car, truck, tractor, motorcyle and more show was held in Plainview over last weekend. Enthusiasts gathered in downtown to view classic, custom and curious vehicles of all shapes and sizes.
New this year was a swap meet where parts could be purchased, exchanged and found, and the FFA hosted its annual vendor show as well. Awards for the Hotrod’s signature trophies will be reported as they are known.

The Plainview Chamber of Commerce awarded a number of Plainview residents, neighbors, business owners and friends with the 2024 Outstanding Awards at this year’s Klown Festival on Saturday. Winning the Citizen of the Year award was longtime resident and business operator, Lois Moser, who retired after nearly 40 years of service to Town & Country locally just this June.
The Cool Beanz Coffee Truck – Jamie and Samantha Alexander and Holden Wetzler, was the committee’s choice for the “Outstanding Business” this year. The Wayne and Judy Rasmussen Family was chosen as the “Outstanding Farm Family” this year – with more than 50 years of service to the agricultural community in a variety of unique farming ventures, and now on a multigenerational farm.
The “Outstanding Plainview Supporter” this year was given to Larry and Mary Petersen for their work in the community – especially at the Plainview Senior Center and helping their friends and neighbors.
Graduating Senior Kayci Daudt was named the Chamber’s “Outstanding Youth” for the 2024 year for her service to the Rainbow Girls, Eastern Star, community service, local work ethic, her volunteer hours and her service through music to the community. Each year the Chamber of Commerce requests nominations for 4-5 “Outstanding Awards” that are given out during the festivities on Saturday evening during the Plainview Klown Festival.

Memorial Day services were held at the Plainview High School auditorium under the direction of the Plainview American Legion Post #148 and its Auxiliary. Around 50 attended, with many from the Plainview community helping to memorialize the fallen soldiers.
